John Michaelson was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Raised in a Godly home, he spent many years running from God until the Holy Spirit surprised him one night in July of 1993, the summer after his sophomore year at the University of Michigan. This encounter led John to commit his life to Jesus and seek out some Christian friends on campus. That’s when he got involved in Chi Alpha. John and Lynne met there and though they lost touch after graduation, they reconnected a few years later and got married in 2003.

John enjoys just about everything. You would be just as likely to find him touring art galleries as you would fly-fishing for trout, watching a Michigan football game, reading about emerging culture or doing home repairs. Most likely, though, you would find him at one of the many fine local coffee shops in Providence, alone with a book or talking with friends. Lynne enjoys hanging out time with other women from the church and work. She is adept at experimenting with new recipes and sipping fine tea. Lynne and John most enjoy spending time together.

John has a B.A. in Communications from U of M and an M.Div. from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He has served on staff with Chi Alpha since 1997 at Southern Illinois University, Ohio State and the University of Texas. Lynne has a B.S. in Engineering from U of M and a Ph.D. in Material Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) She has spent many year volunteering with Chi Alpha and currently works as a process engineer at Vishay Electro-films.

They moved to Providence, Rhode Island and spent the past year pioneering Chi Alpha at Brown University. They love serving all types of American and International university students and place a high priority on spending time with those outside of the traditional church setting.

They are expecting their first child in April 2008.

Please pray for the Michaelsons to thrive in their marriage, raise Godly children, and successfully share the gospel of Jesus with university students and see a huge number reached, filled, mentored and sent out to replicate that work wherever they go.
